Thermal Imaging System Keeps the Ball in Play
9/1/2001
It is unlikely that the Hotspur Football Club in the United Kingdom will face weather
postponement of any of their matches because an effective underground heating system at their
White Hart Lane Stadium. Designed to prevent the pitch from freezing and ensure good quality
turf during winter months, the heating network is comprised of over 18 miles of plastic
pipework laid at a depth of about 50 cm. FLIR’s ThermaCAM PM 695 monitors the heating system to
make sure it is operating properly and delivering optimum playing conditions. Additionally, the
ThermaCAM PM 695 IR camera meets other stadium maintenance requirements including: inspection
of bearings on the pumping system’s motors for unacceptable wear, checking associated
electrical controls for any hot connections, and monitoring distribution boards in all four
grandstands.
