FLIR Systems Announces New ThermaCAM GasFindIR
Technology to be Presented at Annual Infrared Conference

09/08/2005

Infrared Imaging Technology Detects Volatile Organic Compounds(VOC’s) Faster, Easier and Less Expensively

Boston, MA (September 8, 2005) – FLIR Systems, Inc., the global leader in infrared cameras, is pleased to announce that thermography expert David Furry will present a paper at the annual InfraMation Conference in Las Vegas, NV October 17-21, 2005. This exciting presentation will explain how new infrared imaging technology is superior in finding VOC leaks, which is great news for both the environment and the petrochemical industry.

FLIR’s GasFindIR infrared camera is the tool needed to aid in eliminating VOC leaks, which are a common problem in petrochemical facilities. These costly leaks of benzene, propane, and methane lead to global warming, equipment damage, regulatory fines, and even pose a deadly risk to workers. The GasFindIR infrared camera incorporates the latest infrared imaging technology by using a special infrared imager employing a sensitive detector and cold filter to observe active leaks. This precise method replaces toxic vapor analyzers (TVA’s), or “sniffers” which are labor intensive and can only give an indication of a VOC leak (at very close range) without an image – that clearly shows the leak.

The GasFindIR is truly revolutionary since it enables workers to scan large areas to detect leaks, therefore greatly increasing productivity. The environment will benefit from less VOC leaks as well as petrochemical facilities that can now easily improve their efficiency and profitability.

The annual InfraMation conference is beneficial to beginners in the infrared camera field as well as professional thermographers. Newcomers will learn how to select the right camera for their needs while experts can renew and maintain their certification by attending InfraMation clinics. Presentations and clinics for the 2005 conference cover diverse fields from plant operations – with clinics in building science, mechanical, roofing and electrical operations – to scientific and medical infrared applications including R&D, medical/health care and equine/veterinary thermography.

“By attending InfraMation, thermographers not only learn how to better operate infrared cameras, but also optimally interpret the results, enabling them to more easily identify and diagnose the real-world issues that affect and enhance both their jobs and the companies they work for,” explained Dr. Robert Madding, PhD, Director, Infrared Training Center. Petrochemical industry specialists can see for themselves how to properly operate the GasFindIR camera knowing they are getting accurate results.

About ITC – the Infrared Training Center

The Infrared Training Center (ITC) has invested in the people, resources and technology to create a world class training program and facility. The ITC was originally an infrared camera operator training course, but has evolved over the past 25 years into an infrared predictive maintenance certification program that teaches operator training as well as infrared theory and applications. Today ITC is the global leader in IR Thermography Training.
