FLIR Introduces Ultra High Performance Digital Transfer
System for Phoenix® (Indigo) Science-Grade
Infrared Cameras

4/27/2005

New System features GigE, Camera Link, and USB connectivity with 40 MHz throughput, full support for all Indigo FPA/ROIC readout modes and features, a4-bit digital data path, windowing, command and control, flexible synchronization modes, and embedded IRIG-B.

Available in multiple wavebands, with selectable resolution and optimized for super-framing.

North Billerica, MA (April 27, 2005) – A new ultra high performance digital transfer system for its Phoenix® (Indigo) science-grade infrared cameras is available from FLIR Systems. The new FLIR Phoenix Digital Transfer System (DTS), functionality-rich and designed by engineers for engineers, offers the highest degree of flexibility and performance with snapshot mode integration, 14-bit dynamic range extension, high frame rates and full control of the FPA. The DTS in conjunction with a Phoenix 320x256 resolution camera head can acquire images up to 345 frames per second, all in a military-qualified ultra-compact package.

The DTS module, coupled with ThermaCAM RTools®, can capture images at 4 different integration times in rapid succession, automatically select the best pixels in each image, and then reconstitute one dynamic image. By taking 4 images into one, DTS and RTools can create 18-20 bit images at very high frame rates – a process called super-framing.

For existing Phoenix infrared camera owners, DTS is a revolutionary, add-on electronic module that allows them to extend the life of their existing infrared camera while upgrading to GigE and all other features – a significant capabilities advance – at a very affordable price.

“In this economy, engineers have limited resources and need to find new ways to extend the shelf life of their equipment. DTS is the right product, at the right time.” says David Bursell, R&D business line manager for FLIR Systems. “In fact, response has been so strong; we’re directing people to a dedicated resource and phone number.”

With the introduction of DTS, the Phoenix infrared camera line is the perfect choice for solving challenging – and constantly changing – R&D problems and phenomena. In addition to GigE, Camera Link, and USB connectivity options, full command and control functionality, embedded IRIG-B and superframing features, Phoenix DTS is available in 320x256 or 640x512 detectors, as well as in various NIR, MWIR and LW wavebands. There are also broadband options, including VisGaAs, to further expand the spectral capabilities of the Phoenix camera line.
