Tips for Working with Reports and Templates:

When editing a report or template make sure you do not copy and paste the IR objects, such as images, results tables, and summary tables. This can cause the report to become corrupt and cause a "design mode" error. If you need to add a new table or image to the page you must click on the appropriate button on the Reporter 7 toolbar.

FAQs:

Q: I installed Reporter 7, but I don’t see a new shortcut. How do I start the program?

A: Reporter 7 is a plug-in for Microsoft Word. To create a new report with the Pro version you must start Word first and then select “ThermaCAM --> ThermaCAM Wizard” from the menus. This will start the report wizard so you can select a template and begin creating a new report. To create a new report using the Basic version select "File --> New" from the Word menus.

Q: I installed my Reporter 7 software but many of the buttons are disabled. What is wrong?

A: If the Wizard button and other buttons are disabled in Word then you probably have the Basic version of Reporter 7.

Q: I installed Reporter 7 but none of the toolbars appear in Word.

A: If Adobe Acrobat 6 Standard or Professional is installed it will prevent the Reporter 7 toolbars from appearing in Word. You can remove the Office components of Adobe 6 through Control Panel without affecting the functionality of Adobe. You can still create PDF files from Word by selecting "FIle --> Print" and choosing the Acrobat PDF Writer. Reporter 7 also comes with its own built-in PDF converter.

Q: Where are the Reporter template files stored?

A: All Reporter 7 templates are stored in the following folder:

  • For Windows 2000 & XP: C:\Documents and Settings\[Your user name]\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates\IR
  • For Windows 98 & ME: C:\Windows\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates\IR
  • For Windows NT4: C:\WinNT\Profiles\[Your user name]\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates\IR

Q: How do I create a "Drag and Drop" shortcut on the desktop?

A: One of Reporter 7 Pro's most popular features is the ability to "Drag and Drop" images into a new report. In order for this to work, however, you must make a shortcut using the Rapid Report Manager. Select "Start --> Programs --> Rapid Report Manager" to start the program. Click the "Browse" button to select a template from the IR folder. Click Open and then click "File --> Save as" to save the shortcut to the desktop. Now you can drag images from any folder onto the desktop shortcut to create a new report.

FAQs:

Q: How do I send reports to other users who don’t have Reporter installed?

A: If you send a report to someone that does not have Reporter installed they can use Thermacam Report Viewer to view and print the reports. Click here to download and install Report Viewer.

Q: Can I convert my report into a PDF file?

A: It is often convenient to convert reports into PDF format for distribution to other users who do not have the Reporter software. This functionality is not built-in to Reporter, however if you have Adobe Acrobat installed you can easily create a PDF file from Reporter:

  1. First, open the report file.
  2. Select "File, Print" in Reporter and select either Adobe PDF Writer or Adobe Distiller.
  3. When prompted, enter a filename and select a location to save the file.

If you don’t have the full version of Adobe Acrobat you can download a program called PrimoPDF from the following website: http://www.primopdf.com/.

Q: Where are the Reporter 2000 template files stored?

A: If you click "Settings --> File locations" in Reporter the "Templates" section will show exactly where to store the template files. Typically they are stored in My Documents\ThermaCAM Reporter 2000 Professional\Template or My Documents\ThermaCAM Reporter 2000 Basic\Template depending on which version you are using.

Q: How do I change my Quick template for "Drag and Drop"?

A: Reporter 2000 Pro allows you to "Drag and Drop" images onto the Reporter desktop shortcut to create a new report. Any template can be used for this, however you must set the Quick template in Reporter. Select "File --> Quick template" in Reporter Pro and choose your template from the list. Then close Reporter and "Drag and Drop" to make your report.

Q: How do I change the company logo on my report or template?

A: To change the logo picture in a template or report select "Settings --> Logo" from the pull-down menus. Click "Select" and browse to the picture file you want to use as your logo. Most standard image formats, such as BMP or JPEG, can be used as the logo.

Q: How do I edit my text comments in a report or template?

A: If you forget to add text comments during the Wizard or need to edit existing text, right-click on the IR image on the report or template page and click "Settings". On the Settings window click on the "Text Comment" tab. This will display all of the text comment labels and values stored with the IR image. If you need to edit an existing value, select the label and click the "Change" button. If you need to add a new label, click the "Add" button. Click "OK" once all of the changes have been made.

Q: Why are all of the text boxes black on my report page?

A: This will happen if you try to use Agema Report 5.4 (or an earlier version) on Windows 2000 or XP. These older versions are not compatible with these operating systems, and one symptom is that the text boxes will turn solid black. For upgrade information please contact the FLIR sales department at 866-464-6372 or contact your local FLIR representative.

FAQs:

Q: When I connect my USB camera it asks for a camera driver. Where are the camera drivers located?

A: When Quickview installs it creates a directory in the following location: C:\Program Files\FLIR Systems\Device drivers. All the drivers required for USB and Firewire cameras are in this location. They can also be found on the Quickview CD.

Q: The driver successfully loaded but I still cannot access the camera memory. What is wrong?

A: FLIR cameras install as a network device and use TCP/IP to communicate with the PC. Windows XP Service Pack 2 comes with a firewall that is set to on by default, and this can sometimes interfere with camera communication. To solve this click "Start --> Control Panel" and double-click on "Windows Firewall". Go to the "Exceptions" tab and make sure that "Thermacam Quickview" is listed with a check mark next to it. If not click "Add" to add it to the list of exceptions. Once Quickview is added to this list it should allow communication with the camera.

Q: How can I create a multi-page PDF report using Quickview?

A: To create a multi-page report you must set Quickview to one of the thumbnail views. Then hold down the CTRL key and click on each image that you want to include in the report. You can also use the SHIFT key to select a group of images. Once selected, select "File --> Save As" to create the new report.

Q: How can I send images from Quickview to Reporter 7?

A: You can right-click on an image or set of images in Quickview and select "Send to --> Reporter". With Reporter 7 Pro you can choose which template to use for the new report. With Reporter 7 Basic you are limited to one template, however you can make changes to it. The template is called Quickview.dot and is located in C:\Program Files\FLIR Systems\Quickview. After making changes you must save it as Quickview.dot in the same folder.

Important Update: A new driver is available if you are having trouble connecting a Firewire camera to a PC running Windows XP Service Pack 2.

  • Update Instructions (pdf)
  • Firewire DCAM Driver (zip)
  • FAQs:

Q: When I connect my Firewire camera it asks for a camera driver. Where are the camera drivers located?

A: When Researcher installs it creates a directory in the following location: C:\Program Files\FLIR Systems\Device drivers. All the drivers required for USB and Firewire cameras are in this location. They can also be found on the Researcher CD.

Q: What is a session file (.irs)?

A: The session file can be thought of as a workspace and is most useful for re-creating experimental conditions. It does not contain any images or sequences, however it does contain the path to images that were open when the session was saved. It also saves any measurement tools that are placed on the image. If you use a session file you would normally save it along with a recorded sequence in the same directory. The next time you want to examine the sequence you should open the session file. It will automatically open the images associated with it as well as the measurement tools that were in place at the time.

Q: Can I export temperature data to Excel or other programs?

A: Data can be exported from Researcher in a variety of ways:

    1. If you select "Edit --> Copy value" you can copy temperature or image data to another program as text.
    2. If you have an area box on the screen you can select "Image --> Save area as" to save the contents as a CSV (comma separated values) file.
    3. If you create a time vs. temperature plot you can save the plot file and then open it from Excel. The temperature and time information will appear in separate columns.

Please refer to Researcher Tips for more details on exporting temperature and plot data from Researcher.
